This listing is for a Purpleheart Wooden Staffs. These staffs are an upgrade to a common bamboo or rattan staff. Staffs are used in many traditional styles of martial arts. These particular staffs are 72 inches down to 24" in length. Not all sizes will be available at all times, so please check the variations to see what is in stock. These staffs are all untapered unless specified with the word 'tapered' next to the variation. Otherwise they have a constant diameter throughout their length. If you would like to request a tapered staff and it is not currently available, please send me a message. These staffs are available in various widths ranging from 1" to 1,1/8" to 1,1/4" Please check what is available in stock for purchase.
The materials consist of beautiful tiger striped purpleheart wood which is one of the most beautiful exotic woods. Its hardness is comparable to hickory and has a beautiful natural dark purple color.
These particular staffs are made from curly or flamed purpleheart, which has a holographic curly pattern in the wood, which is shown in the pictures, making these staffs particularly beautiful and rare. The pictures are generic and may not match the exact staff you receive and are generic in nature for that particular curly wood. Some sections of each staff will have more or less of the pattern shown.
These staffs may be of laminated consturction or made from solid wood, depending on wood straightness, and availability.
1" Staffs are best used for solo use, speed training, and tournaments. If you have need of a contact staff, please purchase one of the wider varieties
1,1/8 Staffs are able to be used for contact but also have some maneuverability as well. These are the best all-around sticks able to be used for everything.,
1,1/4 Staffs are the workhorses of the dojo. They are slower than the other widths but are best for contact for their weight.
These staffs are finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which causes the purpleheart to have a rich dark purple color. The oil gives it a permanent shine while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
