This is a 100% handmade Wooden Tanbo Staff pair. These are also commonly known as escrima sticks or kali sticks. This is an upgrade to a common bamboo or rattan staff. The Tanbo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in South American Arnis style martial arts. This particular staff pair is 24 inches in length. Its diameter is a constant 1 inch through out its length.
The materials consist of beautiful hickory and a layer of ipe wood down the center for added straigtness and beauty and weight. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous North American wood. Ipe wood is twice as hard as ipe on the wood hardness scale. This staff does not have any appreciable wobble, flex or hand shock.
This staff is stronger then even solid hickory. It has the best qualities of hickory with its superior impact durability and extra heft and weight from the ipe without sacrificing durability since the ipe resides in the center of the staff and is a beautiful and functional combination.
Hickory can come in darker, lighter, or a mixture of darker or lighter woods combined. The staff pair you recieve will be unique. The pictures above are a generic representation of what is possible and do not represent exactly what you staff will look like.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
