This is a 100% handmade Wooden Hanbo Staff. This is an upgrade to a common bamboo or rattan staff. The Hanbo or half Staff is a traditional Okinawan self defense training tool which are used in Kobudo martial arts weapon styles. 36 inches is the standard hanbo size. Its diameter is constant through out its length. The diameter is 1.25" Making this appropriate for the heaviest of uses
The materials consist of hickory and a layer of extremely dark heavy ipe wood down the center for added straitness and beauty and weight. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous north american wood. Ipe wood is twice as hard as ipe on the wood hardness scale. This staff does not have any appreciable wobble, flex or hand shock.
This staff is recommended for all possible dojo uses as it is stronger then even solid hickory. It adds extra heft and weight from the ipe without sacrificing the superior durability of the hickory as the ipe resides in the center of the staff. It is about the toughest available combination of woods, and is beautiful as well.
Hickory can come in several shades of brown, including having light and dark brown wood on the same staff. Each staff is unique and will be aesthetically different. These markings are aesthetic in nature and in no way affect the integrity of the staff.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
