This listing is for beautiful, rare flamed Pattern Hickory Purpleheart Bo Staffs and smaller. Bo Staffs are a traditional martial arts training weapon used in Okinawa and in many systems of Karate. These staffs have a maximum full size Rokushaku Bo staff size of 72" down to smaller sizes when available. Please see the sizes available currently. These are one of a kind and cannot typically be made to order.
The hickory used in these staffs is a heavy variety. I do not recommend curly weapons for contact typically since the curly represents the grain, which is by nature... not straight. But the wood used it very solid and strong.
These staffs are all untapered and have a constant diameter.
The Hickory used in these staffs has a unique rare flamed or curly pattern as shown in the pictures. This is also called Tiger striped wood. Each of these staffs have a strip of Purpleheart down the middle which adds of course beautiful Natural Purple color, making these staffs some of the most beautiful available.
*Due to the flamed nature of the wood, these staffs have a texture that can be felt due to the switching direction of the grain.
Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous north American wood. Purpleheart is a well-known exotic hardwood coveted by many martial artists for its beauty strength, weight, hardness and impact qualities. The laminations of the various woods increase the strength of the wood by having the grain structures reinforce one another.
Each staff has several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil applied which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
