Hello! Thanks for looking at my site!
This is a handmade heavy Wooden Jo Staff. The Jo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. These particular staffs are less then the standard 48" size in length and greater then 42" . Its diameter is a constant 1,1/8 inch through out its length, making it heavier then a typical hanbo but not too heavy that it can not be used with good speed and agility. Please check the variations to see what sizes are available.
The materials consist of laminated southern Shagbark hickory. Hickory is the hardest available North American Hardwood, and is excellent for all uses and Shagbark hickory amongst the highest quality in hardness and durability in the hickory family. Lamination increases the strength, straightness over time and safety of the staff.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil and sanded to a fine finish, which gives it a nice sheen and and amazing feel in the which allows the hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff.
Hickory can have 3 grain patterns. All light sapwood color, all darker heartwood color or a calico grain pattern, meaning it has present light hickory sapwood and darker heartwood present in the same staff giving it exceptional beauty as only a natural wood can do. These variations are purely cosmetic in nature. And each staff is unique.
