This is a handmade solid Ipe Hanbo Staff. Ipe is very hard exotic heavy wood. The Hanbo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. The traditional length for a hanbo staff is 36". This staff's length is 42 making it an extra long hanbo. Alternatively it can be used as a shorter jo staff, having characteristics of both of these staffs. Its diameter is 1 inch through out its length.
Ipe is twice as hard as common American Hickory. It is one of the hardest woods in the world. It has an amazing smooth sturdy feel. It has a beautiful heavy dark brown color.
It is sanded smooth and finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
