This listing is for extra wide Wooden Hanbo or Half Staff. The Hanbo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts and are about the same size as a standard walking cane. These particular staffs come in 36" and 42" For extra length. Normally hanbo are 1" thick however the hanbo in this listing come in thicker varieties at 1,1/8 or 1,1/4 inch throughout its length, making them much heavier than a typical hanbo but not too heavy that it cannot be used with good speed and agility. The materials consist of solid southern Shagbark hickory. Hickory is the hardest available North American Hardwood and is excellent for all uses and Shagbark hickory amongst the highest quality in hardness and durability in the hickory family. This staff may or may not be laminated depending on availability.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil and sanded to a fine finish, which gives it a nice sheen and amazing feel in the which allows the hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff.
Hickory can have 3 grain patterns. All light sapwood color, all darker heartwood color or a calico grain pattern, meaning it has present light hickory sapwood and darker heartwood present in the same staff giving it exceptional beauty as only a natural wood can do. These variations are purely cosmetic in nature. The pictures shown are generic in nature and the staff that you receive will be unique.
