This is a 72" handmade Wooden Bo Staff. The Bo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. This particular staff is 1,1/8" in diameter in the middle and tapered to approximately 7/8" at both ends for the 72” length option.
These staffs are full contact staffs. They are made with the heaviest hickory available to be able to handle contact, while having less material then the untapered version or the wider 1,1/4 staffs. If you desire a lighter weight version, please see if a medium weight version is available or contact me at scrapwoodmartialarts@gmail.com and I can use a lighter weight wood upon request. For tournament use I recommend the 72" x 1" staffs as they are made with lighter weight hickory. I am not always able to stock these staffs as the weight of the hickory required is not always available.
The materials consist of Shagbark Hickory. Hickory is the hardest available North American Hardwood and is excellent for all uses. These particular staffs are made from beautiful southern light colored hickory sapwood.
These staffs are laminated which increases strength, straightness and safety.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil and sanded to a fine finish, which gives it a permanent shine and and amazing feel in the which allows the hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff.
