The Ni Tanbo are also known as Kali Sticks, Escrima Sticks or short sticks and are used as a Martial arts Training tool in the Philippines, otherwise known as Arnis. This is an upgrade from common Rattan sticks. Each has a diameter of 15/16" inch. Making these thinner than standard sticks.

1/16" May not seem like much but there is a subtle but also very noticeable difference in feel with standard 1" Sticks. The hands feel different around them with a superior grip, and they are much faster than the full 1" sticks.

These sticks come in various lengths, and come in pairs with matching weight and density.

The materials consist of Hickory hardwood which is the hardest available North American wood. This wood is cherished for its superior impact qualities, and resilience. These sticks may come in either solid or laminated hardwood, depending on wood availability and quality.

*Sometimes hickory can come in lighter varieties, and I have listed this separately in the variations as "Lightweight" All of the other listings are standard dense hickory hardwood.

Hickory can come in lighter tan sapwood colors, light brown or darker brown heartwood, or sometimes a mixture of both dark and light on the same stick called 'calico hickory'. These variations are aesthetic only and do not affect the integrity of the wood at all. I have chosen a variety of pictures showing different color variations in hickory Tanbo pairs. The pair you order will be unique to that particular pair. I always match pairs however based on their weight and density.

It is finished with several coats of linseed and beeswax oil, which adds beauty, protection and allows the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the stick which is required for proper technique.
