This listing is for 100% handmade Ipe wood Bo Staffs. The Bo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool which are used in Kobudo martial arts and karate weapon styles. These staffs range from 60 to 72". Its diameter is constant throughout its length. The diameter of these staffs is either 1,1/8" or 1,1/4" diameter of this staff makes it appropriate for the heaviest of applications.
The materials consist of extremely dark heavy Ipe wood. Ipe wood resists denting and is twice as hard as hickory on the wood hardness scale.
Unless otherwise stated, these staffs are extremely heavy and therefore best for weight training, or extreme heavy applications. They are recommended for muscle building or training or maintaining good posture in performing technique.
Staffs labeled as Discounted are staffs are not intended for partner training uses. These staffs are all straight and beautiful but have either non straight grain, pin knots, or some other kind of aesthetic marking. These staffs are perfect for any king of home use, and solo training. Often these staffs have more interesting 'character' markings than the standard straight grain staffs.
*Ipe like all woods can vary in weight. The staffs labeled as medium weight, are constructed out of Ipe that is unusually lighter as compared to regular Ipe. These staffs are comparable to the weight of heavy hickory. These staffs are best for someone wanting a hiking staff or a faster thick staff with a beautiful dark brown color, but not as heavy as typical Ipe. I do not recommend these for contact. For contact purposes please use either the heavy ipe straight grained staffs, or the contact grade hickory staffs.
These staffs are finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
