Extra Heavy Hickory Jo Staff 1,1/8" - 1,1/4" Hiking Staff 46"-54"

This is a handmade extra heavy Wooden Jo Staff. The Jo Staff is a traditional training tool used in Karate, Aikido and Martial arts. These staffs are 1,1/8" or 1,1/4" inches in thickness making these staffs much heavier and sturdier than the standard thickness Jo Staff or Hiking Stick which is 1". Their lengths range from 48"-54".

1,1/4" Thick Hickory Jo staffs are quite heavy and are best for muscle building or the heaviest applications.

1,1/8" Are a good cross between wanting a heavier jo staff for muscle building but still light enough to have good technique and momentum for movements.

These staffs may either be made from solid construction or laminated construction, depending on wood availability and the quality of wood available.

These staffs are excellent for muscle building or strength training due to their extra thickness and weight. They also function excellently as a wilderness walking stick due to this very reason, although the 1,1/4 thick staffs can become quite heavy on long treks.

*For the staffs I have labeled as medium weight, these are very stable and solid, however they have a medium average weight for hickory. These are still stable enough to be used for heavier uses, but I would heavily recommend them for hiking purposes as well, due to their ability to be carried over longer distances, while still feeling stable for a feeling of protection. 

The materials consist of Hickory which is the hardest available north American wood and has an incredibly sturdy feel. The hickory prevents these jo staffs from having any flex or wobble upon performing techniques.

*For the 'lightweight option' these staffs have a slightly lighter density then standard hickory. These staffs are particularly good for hiking, due the increased ability to carry for long distances, while still maintaining the strength and durability of hickory. They may still be heavier than average hardwoods, but lighter then normal for hickory. Also excellent for speed training in karate. These staffs may still be comparable to most hardwoods, however for hickory, they are below average. I have reduced the price on these staffs by 10$.

The pictures are generic in nature and show a variety previous staffs built. Hickory can come in several different shades, and sometimes multiple shades are combined on one staff. Each staff is unique, and the staff you receive will be one of a kind.

Each is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil and sanded to a fine finish, which gives it a permanent shine and and amazing feel in the which allows the hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff.
