This listing is for octagonal construction Hickory Bo staffs. These staffs are made from 100% hickory. Its width from flat surface to opposite flat surface is approximately 1 inch. These Bo Staffs range from 60" to 72" in length max.
72 Inches is a standard full size Bo Staff, while 60" is suitable as a shorter size Bo Staff, or as a extra long Jo Staff.
These staffs are made from Solid Appalachian Hickory. These staffs can either be solid Hardwood or Laminated Construction.
They are excellent for forms and demonstrations due to the lighter weight and Thin(1") diameter. Although, they can still be used as hiking staffs and offer ample security due to the heavier hickory hardwood.
The octagonal style design feels EXTREMELY natural in the hands and is the ultimate outdoor use staff... they feel more solid when gripping. It is preferred by many martial artists because of this quality. It is absolutely wonderful for wilderness hiking as well due to the angled surfaces. They are also excellent for kata and strength training in the martial arts.
Hickory is the hardest available North American wood. Hickory prevents this Bo from having any wobble or flex, and has a great sturdy feel. Please note that hickory can come in the lighter sapwood color, the darker heartwood color, or a combination of both, giving each staff a unique natural beauty. These variations are purely aesthetic and do not at all affect the performance or the feel of the wood.
It is finished with several coats of linseed and beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
