This listing is for Purpleheart/Hickory Laminated Wooden Bo Staffs. The Bo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. These particular staffs are 72 inches maximum in length. This staff has a width of 1,1/4" throughout.
These staffs come in tapered and un-tapered verities.
.Tapering means that the ends of the staffs have been gradually thinned. This substantially increases the speed of the staff, while still retaining strength.

The materials consist of purpleheart on both sides surrounding a strip of heavy white hickory down the center for added strength, straightness and effect. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous North American wood. Purpleheart is a very popular exotic hardwood coveted by many martial artists for its beauty strength, weight, hardness and impact qualities. The laminations of the various woods increase the strength of the wood by having the grain structures reinforce one another.
The Purpleheart staffs in the pictures are shown in their oiled and both unoiled and oiled as that is the natural sheen of the wood and is incredible to see. With oiling they will become a very dark purple color as shown in the pictures. On each staff is applied several coats of traditional linseed and beeswax oil which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique in the martial arts.
