This listing is for Exotic Purpleheart/Hickory Deluxe laminated handmade Wooden Bo Staffs or Quarterstaffs. The Bo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. These particular staffs are 72 inches maximum in length. This staff has a width of 1,1/4" throughout.

Due to the heavy weight, these staffs are able to handle all dojo uses, and have a very sturdy feel. They have a feel very alike to a heavy quarterstaff.
The materials consist of beautiful exotic Purpleheart on both sides surrounding a strip of heavy white hickory down the center for added straightness and effect. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous north American wood. Purpleheart is a very popular exotic hardwood coveted by many martial artists for its beauty strength, weight, hardness and impact qualities. The laminations of the various woods increase the strength of the wood by having the grain structures reinforce one another.
This bo staff is recommended for all possible dojo uses. It is a beautiful and functional combination.
Purpleheart is naturally purple. And it becomes a darker shade of purple overtime.
The purpleheart staffs in the pictures are shown in their oiled and both unoiled and oiled as that is the natural sheen of the wood and is incredible to see. With oiling they will become a very dark purple color as shown in the pictures. On each staff is applied several coats of traditional Linseed and Beeswax oil which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique in the martial arts.
