This is a handmade solid Ipe Jo Staff. Ipe is an exotic heavy wood. The Jo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo martial arts styles. This staff is 48" in length. The diameter is 1 inch throughout its length. It is perfect for use in martial arts training , Karate, Aikido and Jodo.
Ipe is twice as hard and heavy as common American Hickory. It is one of the hardest woods in the world. With an amazing smooth sturdy feel, it has no wobble upon performing techniques and has a beautiful heavy dark brown color.
*For the staffs labeled discounted, these staffs are all heavy, but they have sections of either wavy grain, or some other type of discoloration. They are perfectly straight and perfect for hiking and solo use. These staffs will often have more interesting patterns on the wood. These staffs are not recommended for contact or partner training.
Each is sanded down to a shine and finished with several coats of linseed and beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
